Autumn fashion: hats!

If there's one thing I love about Autumn / Winter fashion, it's accessories, accessories, accessories! I've always admired the wide-brimmed hat trend that I've seen others sporting recently, but I've never been brave enough to go for one myself. After deliberating over buying a Topshop version, I snapped this baby up in Forever 21 for a fraction of the price!

It's a deep green, which I love because it's a bit different to black but it will still go with a lot of outfits. Looking forward to getting a lot of wear out of it this season!

A Week in Turkey

Hello everyone. The past few weeks have been utter craziness in my life! But in a very good way. I've started a new job, which has been taking up a lot of my time, but I was also lucky enough to go away to Turkey for a wee week's holiday with my friend. It was an amazing hotel, in a beautiful location, and we had so much fun! I thought I'd share with you some snaps from the week.

It was such a good week, I came back feeling so relaxed! I loved the sunshine but now I'm ready for Autumn. I have a lot of Autumn/ Wintery themed blog posts planned!

Also when I was in Turkey I picked up some amaaazing bargains! Loved Marmaris shopping!
(Can't beat a bit of Turkish delight! And apple tea is now going to be my drink of choice at work)

Recipe: Japanese Gyoza

Hey everyone! So today's post is something a little different. I love cooking and trying new recipes, and attempting to learn to be better in the kitchen! This recipe was inspired for my love of all things Japanese, and the Hairy Bikers who did something similar on their show! Those guys are hilarious. I wish they were my friends!

Gyoza are Japanese dumplings, kind of like dim sum (a favourite of mine). They're little parcels of a thin pastry-like dough filled with either meat, fish or veggies. The Hairy Bikers made theirs with crab meat, but I decided to use chicken mince for mine. So without further ado, here is the recipe!

***WARNING: THESE GYOZA ARE EXTREMELY MOREISH***

So, to make these yummy little parcels of fun, you will need:
 - Flour (about 300g)
 - Water (Boiling - about 200ml)
 - Chicken or turkey mince
 - Pak Choi (finely chopped)
 - Spring Onions (finely chopped)
- Salt
- Pepper
- Chilli Flakes
- Soy Sauce

...And that's it! You can add ginger, garlic or anything else to season to your taste.

METHOD:

1. Sift the flour and the salt into a large bowl, adding 1/2 tablespoon of salt

2. Stir in the boiling water until the mixture comes together and forms a dough

3. Cover with cling film and set aside for 1 hour

4. For the filling, mix the mince, pak choi and spring onions in a bowl until it forms a gloopy paste. Add the salt, pepper, chilli flakes and soy sauce to season. Set aside in the fridge until the dough is ready to work with.

5. Work the dough on a heavily floured surface for a few minutes until it is ready to be rolled out - it must be rolled paper thin!

6. Use a cutter (or something round) to form little discs, 4 or 5 inches across.

7. Put a dollop of filling onto each disc, wet the edges and seal forming a little parcel! Repeat the process until you have something like this:

8. Oil up a hot pan and place the gyoza in to fry for about 2 minutes, until the bottoms are golden brown. Pour in about 100ml of water and place a lid on, allowing them to steam for a further 2 minutes. Be careful not to burn yourself!

9. Take the lid off, and let them cook for a last 2 minutes before carefully removing them from the pan.

10. Serve your gyoza with a sweet chilli dipping sauce, or whatever you prefer! And enjoy your delightful Japanese creations!

Happy cooking!

Seaside Weekend!

Hey everyone, I'm just back from such a fun wee trip to Largs and Millport at the weekend, and I thought I would share some of my photos with you. We were quite lucky with the weather- the first day was a bit blustery (I had to buy a hat!) but the second day was lovely and we were able to hire bikes and cycle round the island! I had so much fun, I don't even remember the last time I rode a bike! I felt like such a kid again - it was so nostalgic, eating fish and chips and ice cream, going to the amusements and the toy shop, doing all the regular sea-side-y activities!

We visited the amazing and quirky Kelburn Castle  which was so much fun, I've never been anywhere like it! The whole side of the castle has been painted with cartoon style graffiti which gives it such a magical vibe! There's also an adventure playground (which we had loads of fun completing) and a Secret Forest complete with gingerbread house, crocodile swamp, goblin castle and a maze! Anyone visiting Largs, I would highly recommend a trip here. They also have a cafe, a little farmyard with chickens and goats and a paddock with horses.

No trip to Largs would be complete without a world famous Nardini's ice cream sundae!

Hiring bikes on Millport was by far the best fun I've had in a long time. It was especially worth it after pedalling up a massive hill, to be able to freewheel alllll the way down to the bottom! So exhilarating.

Now I'm back home I'm missing the seaside already! Does anyone else love an old school British seaside holiday as much as I do?

The Liebster Award

Hey everyone! So I was lucky enough to be nominated for a Liebster Award by the lovely and gorgeous Nicole from Cocomadeherdoit.blogspot.co.uk ! Check out her blog, it's amazing!
Nicole asked me to answer some questions, then nominate eleven other bloggers for the award. Since I'm having a lazy Sunday today, sipping on some tea hungover from last night, I thought now would be a good time to get cracking! So here goes..

Questions

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

I love blogging because it gives me an outlet to my creativity. I've always been very artistic and loved writing and taking photos. I do it for the joy of watching something I've created grow and take shape, and if other people get pleasure out of it too, even better!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that most people don't know?

I have a weird desire to work on a commercial fishing boat!

How do you see your blog progressing in the future?

Hopefully it will continue to grow and more people will read it- I want to be able to share it with as many people as possible!

How would you describe your style?

I find it pretty hard to define my style because it isn't always the same - it depends on my mood but I would say: cute and quirky with a bit of an edge.

Do you have any tips for people who would like to start a blog?

Just go for it! You have nothing to lose.

What is your most loved possession and why?

All of my journals because they contain all my memories and are priceless to me.

What do you want most from life?

To travel and be happy

Do you feel that the blogging world can grow?

I think it is growing all the time- we're definitely changing into a much more user-generated-content society. I find it very interesting the way the media world is heading.

Tell us one thing you feel you can improve on your blog?

I would love to change and improve my layout and make it more personal to me. And I also want to become more involved in the blogging community in Glasgow and Scotland.

What are your interests/hobbies?

Writing, photography, reading, travelling... I also love video games, and I'm a bit of an Asian culture geek sometimes! Oh, and I'm total beauty junkie.

What is your dream career?

There are a lot of jobs I would love to do - work for a magazine, be a fashion buyer, a photo journalist, a publisher.. Even owning a little cafe would be awesome! To be honest I don't really know where my future is headed but realistically I just want a job that I enjoy doing and that I can feel passionate about.

The lovely bloggers I've nominated for a Liebster Award are:

7. What was the last movie you went to see and what did you think?
8. What's your guilty pleasure?
9. What's your favourite thing about Summer?
10. What do you like most about yourself?
11. Tell us somewhere you've never been but you'd love to visit and why?

Thank you to Nicole for nominating me! I look forward to reading the posts on everyone's' blogs! :D Please link back to me in your post and comment here when you're done!

Laters,
Kirsty

O.O.T.D. - 07/08/14

Today's outfit was rather summery, since it was actually warm outside for a change! I wore this on a wee trip out to ikea (I can't keep away from that place, I know!)

Skirt is from Forever 21, top is H&M and my sandals are from a wee shop in the city centre which I don't remember the name of :(

I hope there are going to be more sunny days like this! I'm not ready to put away my summer clothes just yet!
